Happy Holidays?

what does "H.E.B." stand for? "hope everyone buys" so don't offend anyone?
i don't know why this sign bothers me so much each day that i pass it as i am taking children to middle school. maybe it's because of what HEB (or at least the Butt family) once contended that they "stood for", but no more: now it's liquor, lottery, and liberalism.
bah humbug!
am i out of line?

  1. That sign bothers me too, and so does any other business that tries to keep from mentioning CHRISTmas. I know that we could just assume that when they say Happy Holidays that they mean the time from Thanksgiving, through CHRISTmas, and on into New Years. But we don't need to lump all those together. What we are about to celebrate is CHRISTmas.....Christ's birthday. More and more of the CHRISTmas cards say "Happy Holidays" in them...I refuse to buy those. I am NOT sending a Happy Holidays card...I'm sending CHRISTmas cards! Yes, we are all commercialized to a certain degree. Yes, I have a house full of Santa Clauses. Yes, I am caught up in the hoopla of trying to get to the sales first to get that certain something special for a family member. But I am completely and fully aware that CHRISTmas is Jesus' birthday and I will celebrate that most precious gift of all----a baby born in a manger in Bethlehem. So, yes, John, that does bother me too. Now what are we gonna do about it?

  2. and another thing......the "world" has gotten so afraid of offending so many different groups of people. But are they afraid of offending us, the Christians?
